Here’s the scenario. You’ve chosen to hire an SEO agency to handle your campaign. They seem to have all of the credentials and claim that they’ll be able to improve your SEO and drive plenty of high-powered, organic traffic to your law firm’s website. But how do you really know if they’re doing their job and getting legitimate results? Here are some specific things to look for to ensure that they’re helping and not hurting you.
Your Ranking Has Improved
It may sound obvious, but this is usually the most straightforward way to see how legitimate an SEO agency is. If the ranking for your targeted keywords has noticeably improved since you’ve partnered with them, then you should be in good hands. For example, if a Charlotte-based law firm went from number nine to number two for the keyword phrase “Charlotte law firm,” they could rest assured that the agency is doing a good job.
Another thing to assess is how well you’re ranking for a variety of longtail keywords. This is often the lifeblood of an SEO campaign, so you’ll want to see that your site is ranking favorably for at least a handful of these keywords.
It’s not just enough to rank highly for a short period of time and then lose it. You want to make sure that you’re maintaining your position for both targeted and longtail keywords. After all, it won’t do you much good if you reach the number one spot for a couple of days only to drop to the fourth page of search results. While it’s normal for a ranking to fluctuate and move up or down a spot or two within a week, you shouldn’t see any dramatic drop off.
Your Revenue Has Increased
When you really break it all down, the whole purpose of SEO or any form of marketing for that matter is to boost revenue. You’re spending time and money to ultimately bring in new clients and make more money. By targeting the right demographic and implementing effective techniques, an SEO agency should be able to drive highly targeted, organic traffic to your law firm’s website.
From there, these leads should explore your site, and a sizable portion should ultimately become your clients. If you’ve seen a noticeable spike in revenue within a few months of hiring an SEO agency, then they’re most likely doing their job.
They Have Recommendations for Long-Term Improvements
Any legitimate agency will take a proactive approach to the SEO process. They’ll be concerned about your long-term success and be thinking years down the road. In turn, they’ll most likely give you recommendations on what you can do to improve your SEO in the long run. For instance, they might recommend becoming an active blogger, building a presence on various social networks, increasing your site speed and so on. This shows that they genuinely want to help and not just grab your money and run.
Hiring an SEO agency can be highly beneficial. But it’s important to make sure that they’re competent and that they’ve got your best interests in mind. By assessing these key areas, you should be able to tell how good of a job they’re doing.
